Side-to-Side Pancreaticojejunostomy With Caudal Pancreatectomy: For Treatment of Chronic Pancreatitis With Calculi

INCIDENCE of severe chronic pancreatitis which requires surgical intervention has been less prevalent in Japan than in Western countries. Our survey, as well as our own experience, 1 has shown that such cases are increasing in number in Japan and that surgical management of these cases has been drawing vast interest in recent years. Among the operations advocated for the management of chronic pancreatitis, side-to-side pancreaticojejunostomy by Puestow and Gillesby 2 seems to be most rational. As a modified procedure, we have been combining caudal pancreatectomy with Puestow's procedure. It is the purpose of this study to report the advantages and results of our modified Puestow's procedure. Materials and Methods A total of 26 patients with chronic pancreatitis were admitted to our department during the period from 1941 through 1967.
