2008
TheTropical Atmosphere Ocean/Triangle Trans- OceanBuoyNetwork (TAO/TRITON) moored buoyarray isa central component oftheElNino-Southern Oscillation (ENSO)Observing System tosupport research andforecasting ofElNinfo andLa Nina.Thepresent composition of TAO/TRITONconsists of55TAO legacy ATLASmoorings developed by NOAA Pacific MarineEnvironmental Laboratory (PMEL)andmaintained byNOAA National Data BuoyCenter (NDBC), 12TRITONmoorings maintained by JapanAgencyforMarine-Earth Science andTechnology (JAMSTEC), and5 subsurface Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP)moorings (4maintained byNDBC and1by JAMSTEC). During thetransition oftheTAO arrayfromPMEL to NDBC,itwasdecided torefresh theTAOsystem byreplacing theobsolete components toensure ongoing continuity ofthe TAOarray.
