Hydrodynamic properties and conformational characteristics of polynaphthoyleneimidobenzimidazole in sulphuric acid

1990
The translational diffusion and viscosity of polynapthoyleneimidobenzimidazole solutions in 96% sulphuric acid at 30°C are studied. The relations between the hydrodynamic properties and the MM are found: [η] = 0.49 M0.64±0.12, D = 3.9 × 10−6M−0.55±0.04 (in the region of [η] ⩾ 400 cm3/g, M ⩾ 50 × 103) and [η] = 7.0 × 10−4M1.23±0.4 cm3/g, D = 3.4 × 10−5M0.74±0.08 cm2/s ([η] ⩽ 600 cm3/g, M ⩽ 80 × 103). The equilibrium rigidity of the macromolecules is indicated by the length of the Kuhn segment A = 170 ± 30 A, and the hydrodynamic diameter of the chain d = 6 ± 2 A.
