Radiative heat transfer. Annual report, January 1987-March 1988

1988
A one-dimensional mathematical model was developed to predict the steady-state thermal performance of natural-gas-fired once-through and single-ended radiant tubes. The model predictions were compared with available experimental data for the purpose of validating the model. A simple two-dimensional model of a once-through radiant tube has also been developed to predict the combustion characteristics and the flame length. A transient, zero-dimensional (stirred furnace) model has been developed to predict the thermal performance and the temperature distribution in the load inside a batch-heating furnace. Parametric calculations were performed to identify the firing conditions for improving performance of the furnace.
