Membrane electrode assembly and the use thereof

Membrane electrode assembly (10, 30), comprising: an ion conductive membrane (12) having an anode side (14) and a cathode side (22); at least a cathode-side catalyst layer (24) which is positioned on the cathode side (22) of the diaphragm (12); and an anode-side multi-layered catalyst configuration at the anode side (14) is positioned said diaphragm (12), wherein the anode-side multi-layered catalyst configuration, an anode-side sub-layer (20) which is positioned against the membrane (12) and having a catalyst, an anode-side layer (18) which is positioned at the anode-side sub-layer (20) and does not have a catalyst, and an anode-side catalyst layer (16) which on the anode-side layer (18) opposite to the anode-side sub-layer (20) is positioned and the same catalyst as the anode-side sub-layer (20), wherein the amount of catalyst in the anode-side catalyst layer (16) is greater than the amount of catalyst in the anode-side sub-layer (20).
