A CASE OF ESOPHAGO-BRONCHIAL FISTULA WITH ESOPHAGEAL DIVERTICULUM

1994
An adult case of esophago-bronchial fistula with esophageal diverticulum was described. A 54-year-old woman complaining of a fever and hemoptysis had been diagnosed as lung abscess. Esophagogram and esophagoscopy revealed the existence of a fistula between the middle thoracic esophagus and right intermediate bronchus. Surgical closure of the esophago-bronchial fistula was performed and the postoperative course was uneventful. Eighty-six cases of esophago-bronchial fistula with esophageal diverticulum including this case have been reported in the Japanese literature and these cases were analysed in this report. This disease can be easily diagnosed by esophagography. It is important to make definite diagnosis as early as possible with full use of technology and to perform operation.
