Structural Strength Analysis of a 105000 DWT Floating Storage and Offloading (FSO) Helideck Due to the Helicopter Landing Loads Using Finite Element Method

2019
A Helideck installed on A Floating Storage and Offloading (FSO) to facilitate the landing and departure of a helicopter which carries personnel and/or authorities on board the ship. To be able to withstand the weights and the landing loads of helicopter without any failure, helideck should meet the required maximum stress appointed by DNV classification. The research has been conducted to figure out the maximum stress of helideck structures under working loads, maximum deformation, the location where it occurs, and making sure that the maximum stress is not exceeding the allowable stress. The 3D modelling and the analysis is carried out using finite element analysis software NEiFusion N astran. The final analysis result shows that the maximum Von Mises stress is 173.2 MPa and maximum deformation is 7.9 mm. The stress is located in the web plate of the supporting beam. The allowable stress appointed by DNV is 222.4 MPa. All the stress is within the limit. Hence, this helideck structure still meets the requirement appointed by DNV classification.
