DETERMINANTS OF THE SEVERITY OF TANKER ACCIDENTS

1998
The type of accident includes a collision, a fire/explosion, a material/equipment failure, or a grounding accident as well as whether the accident involved two or more vessels or a single vessel. A collision is expected to result in greater vessel damage than a grounding accident. This paper details the process and terms in determining the severity of tanker accidents.
