Pharmacokinetics of Immunomodulators

1990
Immunopharmacology is a relatively new but rapidly developing discipline devoted to unraveling the pharmacological basis of agents whose primary target is the immune system. Presently, considerable attention is being directed to the therapeutic application of these agents for their activity to augment or suppress the responsiveness of various cellular constituents of the immune network. Such immunotherapeutic approaches to modulate immunologic mechanisms can be considered analogous to the well-established therapeutic application of diverse pharmacological agents to treat pathophysiological states resulting from dysfunction of the cardiovascular, renal, nervous, or other systems. Thus, the goal of immunopharmacology is to regulate chemically the activity of the immune system for biological and therapeutic benefit.
