Influence of the shape of the die on the field of strains in the drawing process

1992
Abstract The effect of the shape of the working part of a die on the distribution of the effective strains is investigated in the paper. Rods made of M1E copper have been used in the experiment, applying constant reduction of 36% as well as constant drawing velocity and stable lubrication conditions. Three types of dies have been used, namely, with convex, concave and conical shapes. The results of experiments have shown essential discrepancies between various shapes of dies. The influence of the shape of the die on the distribution of the effective strain is shown in the form of tree dimensional graphs. It can be concluded from the presented results that convex shape of the die guarantees best drawing conditions as far as uniform flow and drawing force are considered.
