A Patch Antenna Array With a Rotatable Polarization Plane for Ku-Band Phased Arrays

A Ku-band linear array that can change the main- beam direction and the polarization plane electronically is presented. The radiating elements are dual circularly polarized (CP) patch antennas, and the main-beam direction and the polarization angle of the resultant linearly polarized (LP) wave are controlled by changing only the excitation phases. Experimental results of the beam steering and polarization plane control are presented.
