There are very few hematological emergencies that they are usually excluded from the list of differential diagnosis; nonetheless, if untreated, they can lead to devastating results. Thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) is a thrombotic microangiopathy with characteristic von Willebrand factor (vWF)-rich microthrombi affecting the arterioles and capillaries of multiple organs. It represents both a diagnostic and management challenge to clinicians. Timely recognition and institution of appropriate therapy are of paramount importance in optimizing outcome.
