Resilience and survivability of ATM node-node network failures using ant colony swarm intelligent modelling

2016
With Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) gaining momentum, it is very important that ATM associated or related problems such as node-node failures should be resolved in order to have maximum utilization of ATM resources with minimal failure rate. Much research has been conducted on a single failure of telecommunication networks, but not enough work has been done on multiple failures within ATM networks. This research proposes an Ant Colony swarm survivability model to resolve multiple node failure problems. Each communication flow finds a survival path in order to protect any multiple intermediate node-node failure along its working path. The resilience of the swarm model was tested on a node - node failure towards the centre and edges of an ATM network. The survival solution path from various location scenarios, demonstrates that the proposed swarm model is feasible for current business ATM applications, such as high speed broadband networks.
