Identification of Stem Rust Resistance Gene Sr36 in the Wheat Cultivar GK Kincső and in Its Derivatives

2001
Presence occurrence of the stem rust resistance gene Sr36 in the cultivar GK Kincső was identified by classical genetic analysis. Wheat cultivars containing GK Kincső in their pedigree (GK Garaboly, GK Gobe, GK Kalasz, GK Zugoly, GK Szindbad) showed similar reactions to 18 stem rust isolates as GK Kincső and the near isogenic line for Sr36. Therefore the presence of Sr36 was postulated for these genotypes. Several of them may possess additional gene(s) causing slight differences in their reaction pattern compared with reactions of GK Kincső. The gene Sr36 provided durable resistance in the field during the last 22 years, in Hungary.
