Effects of Cerebral Edema upon Viscoelastic Properties of Brain Tissue

1980
The Intracranial pressure/volume curve from which parameters such as the PVI and VPR are derived is obtained from manipulations of CSF volume and describes the bulk compliance of the craniospinal axis. Although these parameters reflect the combined visoelastic properties of the brain, other techniques are more suitable for measurement of individual viscous and elastic components. The objective of this study was to examine the viscoelastic properties of cat brain by measuring the deformation in response to a known force applied to the surface of the tissue.
