A Simple Framework for Management of Marine Structures

2003
Marine structures by their very nature lie in a very aggressive marine environment. Well designed and constructed structures perform well and poorly designed and constructed structures can suffer significant premature degeneration. The management of these assets is therefore of prime importance if the whole of life maintenance costs are to be minimised and useful life maximised. Significant items of plant and equipment rely on these structures for support and therefore management of maintenance should also manage risk in line with the risk profile adopted by the owner of the port. This paper sets out a simple framework for the management of these assets including inspection regimes, the collection and storage of data and the subsequent use of information gathered.
