The invention discloses a preparation method of high-orientation prismatic iron yttrium oxide powder preferably growing along a (202) crystal face. The preparation method comprises the following steps: firstly dissolving Y(NO3)3.6H2O and Fe(NO3)3.9H2O into deionized water according to the mole ratio of Y:Fe being 1:1 to obtain Y(NO3)3 and Fe(NO3)3 mixed solution, then adding NaOH, stirring evenly to obtain a suspension, controlling the temperature of the suspension at 220-240DEG C, performing hydrothermal reaction for 9-72h, then cooling to room temperature to obtain reaction liquid, carrying out ultrasonic washing with deionized water or sequentially with deionized water and diluted nitric acid, standing, pouring supernatant liquid, and drying the obtain precipitate at the temperature of 80-120DEG C, to obtain the high-orientation prismatic iron yttrium oxide powder preferably growing along the (202) crystal face. According to the preparation method, only a hydrothermal reaction kettle is needed, and the preparation method has the advantages that the technology is simple, the production efficiency is high, the cost is low and the like, thus being suitable for industrial production.
