Abstract 16521: Assessment of Risk in Patients Undergoing Aortic Surgery After Prior Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting

2017
Introduction: Aortic arch surgery is a high-risk procedure for patients who have previously undergone coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). The aim of our study was to assess the risk and determine the outcomes in these patients. Methods: We performed a 15-year retrospective review of 80 consecutive patients (mean age, 68.7±8.5 y) with a history of CABG who underwent proximal aortic surgery. The left internal mammary artery was not patent or present in 18 of the patients (22.5%) but was patent in 62 (77.5%). Forty-seven (58.8%) of the patients had an acute or subacute DeBakey type I or II aortic dissection. Of the 80 patients, 71 (88.8%) underwent ascending and hemiarch replacement, 5 (6.3%) underwent ascending patch repair, and 4 (5.0%) underwent total aortic arch replacement. Concomitant procedures included CABG (n=18, 22.5%), aortic valve repair/replacement (n=50, 62.5%), aortic root repair or replacement (n=11, 13.8%), mitral valve repair/replacement (n=2, 2.5%), and tricuspid valve repair (n=2, 2.5...
