The present invention provides a liquid discharge head cleaning method and apparatus which suppress the contamination of foreign substances adhered to the head of the recording medium. The liquid discharge apparatus comprising: a head, which is provided with a liquid discharge nozzle to a recording medium; a first wiper member wiping a first process embodiment, the first wiping process is, by the nozzle head the relative position of the opening surface contact state with respect to the movement of said head in a predetermined direction from one side toward the other side, so that the foreign matter adheres to the nozzle opening surface for wiping process; a second wiping member which removed a second embodiment of the wiping foreign substances on the side of the other side in the predetermined direction is attached to the head.
