Missile and Fragment Injuries

2021
War wounds, both somatic and mental, are far more complex than other types of injuries encountered in civilian practice. They are also treated under stressful conditions and with limited resources. War wounds include extensive soft tissue and osseous destruction as well as heavy contamination. The nature of warfare creates a particular epidemiology of the wounded, but basically, injuries are characterized as penetrating, blast, and thermal. A review of the existing literature explains these types of wounds which are encountered in warfare, depending on the typology of weapons used in the course of the combat.
