On the potential for computer vision in undergraduate group projects

1993
Computer vision offers an exciting opportunity to combine wide-based and challenging group project work within an advanced technical programme; this is the approach adopted within the 4-year MEng in Information Engineering. In the fourth year, students study subjects in small groups with coordinated coursework material. Image processing and computer vision is one of the five options and includes image formation; image transforms and coding restoration; and feature extraction. Coursework initially centred on a selection of short (mainly software) assignments to enable students to appreciate limitations and benefits of particular vision techniques. This was replaced by more demanding exercises requiring teamwork to achieve a video-rate image processing system. Two such projects are described and evaluated. >
