Investigation on the Influence of Performance Characteristics on Machining Inconel 625 alloy in Electro-Discharge Machining (EDM)

2018
Abstract The important performance characteristic of the electro-discharge machining (EDM) that affects the responses such as material removal rate (MRR) has been studied. EDM is on the un-conventional machining process, which is employed while machining difficult to cut materials. The radical assumption with the EDM is the current is employed between the cathode and the anode through a dielectric medium, thereby removing the undesired materials. This paper mainly deals with optimizing the parameters such as current, pulse on time and pulse off time in order to obtain the optimal response using Taguchi technique. In order to investigate the effect of these parameters in EDM on MRR, orthogonal array (OA) with 9 trials are selected. These trials are done in Inconel 625 alloy with copper as an electrode. EDM are suitable for machining hard materials such as the super alloys, titanium material, etc with ease.
