Irregular variation of rotation velocity of a freely suspended vessel of He II

1980
It is shown that the rotation velocity of a freely suspended vessel containing He II, which rotates with little damping, can spontaneously increase because of some vortices leaving the vessel or annihilating at the wall. The rotation velocity of the vessel, containing a stack of disks, is found to vary irregularly in the interval between spontaneous accelerations.
