Clinical significance of ultrasonic backscatter parameters in type 2 diabetes mellitus

2008
Objective To stusy the clinical application in the assessment of the myocardial changes in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus used integrated backscatter (IBS). Methods Myocardial ultrasonic backscatter parameters of 50 patients with type 2 diabetes mellims and 42 cases of normal control were measured in this study as follows: trans - mitral velocity and velocity time integral, pulmonary venous velocity, mitral annulus velocity and the time averaged value of IB (IBS) ,the calibrated time -averaged value of IB (IBS%) ,the magnitude of the cyclic variation of IB (CVIB) and left ventricular weight mass(LVWM). Re-control group, while the CVIB was lower in diabetic patients (P<0.05). The correlation between IBS% and CVIB of septum and mass in diabetic patients had increased (P< 0.05). Conclusion Ultrasonic integrated baekscatter could provide a early meth-od of assessing myocardial histological changes in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients. Key words: Type 2 diabetes mellitus; Integrated backscatter; Left ventricular mass
