Distinctness of reaction: Ein Messverfahren zur Beurteilung von Echtzeitsystemen (Teil 1)

2003
This paper introduces the method 'Distinctness of Reaction' for the evaluation of real-time systems. The method which is based on an orthogonal Walsh correlation yields a reliability measure given by the average latency response time and jitter when the real-time system is reacting to asynchronous external events. Furthermore, the measured 'frequency response' of the real-time system allows the detection of characteristic properties. The paper is subdivided into two parts. The present part illustrates the theoretical background as well as a first application - the comparison of different operating systems. The second part of the paper [1] demonstrates further applications. These are the comparison of different processors by hand of their ability to react on external events and the evaluation of different bus concepts for real-time critical communication systems. Based on the results, a discussion is carried out which enables the derivation of important clues in order to plan, correct and/or optimize real-time systems.
