La fondazione di una "ecclesia" in "Cucullae" (Kuchl/Austria) nel V secolo: la testimonianza della "Vita sancti Severini" (BHL 7656)

2016
The study of the hagiographic text, which is titled Vita sancti Severini (VS) and is set in Norico (modern Austria) in the fifth century, written by Campanian monk Eugippius in 511 A.D., by means also a re-examination of archaeological researches allowed to analyse the landscape surroundings of Salzburg through a new point of view. I’m devoted to social and religious transformations, which were over into a small castellum in late antique Norico, called Cucullae (modern Kuchl/Salzburg). In this place the saint, main character of the storytelling, came in to take a chunk of population off sacrilegious practices; hagiographer didn’t define either the typology of the ritual or the correct location of the execution of similar customs. I proposed a landscape’s reconstruction by means of archaeological data and an exhaustive lexical analysis of the source. This report tried to prove the continuity of sacred practices, from pagan society until Christian community.
