Semantic Modeling with Foundries.
2018
We analyze challenges for the development of the Human Activity and Infrastructure Foundry, which we had previously proposed. For example, we consider two Korean ceramic water droppers used to mix ink for calligraphy. We explore a rich semantic modeling approach to describe them, how they were produced, and the reasons for their differing aesthetic. This modeling approach is closely related to object-oriented modeling, and we describe some of the implications of that for the design of Human Activities and Infrastructures Foundry (HAIF) ontologies. Ultimately, we conclude that while object-orientation is an important foundation, other paradigms should also be supported for the description of complex scenarios.
