Lead Removal from Industrial Waste

2017
As time goes on technology is developing very fast. With these developments, there is also contamination coming from the establishments producing these technologies, especially metal manufacturer. People are suffering from environmental and water contamination in heavy metal aspects. In this study, the heavy metal removal performance of poly(2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate-N-methacryloyl-(L)-histidine methyl ester), poly(HEMA-MAH) cryogel, a known polymer, in HNO3 was investigated. The effect of HNO3 on the adsorption process, especially for metals, is found very effective even in trace amounts. The characterization studies using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, elemental analysis, water swelling tests and surface area analysis methods. At the end of the optimum conditions (time, concentration, etc.), to determine the heavy metal removal performance of cryogel, the real wastewater was used as obtained from an inorganic material manufacturer factory.
