Detent Force Minimization of Permanent Magnet Linear Synchronous Motor based on Arc-Teeth

2020
Permanent Magnet Synchronous Linear Motors (PMSLMs) have been widely used these years due to their outstanding dynamic characteristics, especially in industry applications. However, the inherent detent force of this type of motor affects the accuracy of the machine. In this paper, a novel PMLSM structure with arc teeth is proposed to reduce detent force. By using Taguchi's parameter method, the coefficient of factors affecting PMLSM performance and the optimal combination of parameters can be obtained. The initial and the optimized PMLSM structures are contrasted by Finite-Element analysis (FEA) method. It shows that the arc-teeth PMLSM can reduce detent force at the cost of minimal electromagnetic performance.
