The analysis of existing techniques of an assessment and formation of strategic capacity of the industrial enterprises is carried out. The enterprise management system of the Nizhny Novgorod Region is analysed. The main concept of strategic potential, its components and the enterprises defining competitiveness is defined, on what it is necessary to pay first of all attention to heads of the enterprises at an assessment of strategic potential, enterprise opportunities for increase of competitiveness of the enterprise in the market. During the analysis of an assessment and formation of strategic potential the following conclusions were drawn: in the strategic capacity of the enterprises of a regional industrial complex the latest methods and instruments of modern management, creativity of thinking of heads of divisions, their direct interest in preservation of the workplaces and development of the enterprises, from the point of view of innovation will be considered.
