Alloy system analysis by laser cladding

1992
A process of laser cladding using argon blown powder delivery is described for the production of ternary alloy laser clad tracks of variable composition. The development of a computer based calibration system for controlling the powder flow rate is also discussed. Analysis of the variable composition tracks produced offers a means of rapid prototyping for the selection of alloys with optimum properties such as wear resistance or corrosion resistance. The principle of the technique is demonstrated for alloy systems containing Fe, Co, Mn, Al and Ni and the technique is used to consider the influence of Co on the pitting resistance of Fe-Co-Al alloys.A process of laser cladding using argon blown powder delivery is described for the production of ternary alloy laser clad tracks of variable composition.
