Examining the Impact of the Pre-existing Organization of Health Care on Health and Medicine 2.0 Initiatives: Case Study France

2010
How does the pre-existing organization of health care impact the development of Health and Medicine 2.0 initiatives ? Our analysis takes us to France where hospitals and clinics and government administration are major players in the health system. Are these institutions getting involved in participatory medicine and 2.0 tools? What is their impact on the others? • Are many health care consumers using general social media platforms ? • Have patient associations made the switch to social media? • Are health care professionals adopting new tools? • What are the healthcare and pharmaceutical industries able to do despite regulation? • How many entrepreneurs have created new businesses? Participatory medicine and its tools are emerging thanks to exceptional individuals leading projects primarily as entrepreneurs, but there are also advances in foundations and public initiatives. No one paper has reviewed all of these initiatives, We will present a Health and Medicine 2.0 country synopsis on France, comparing and contrasting the role of the different segments of the health ecosystem and drawing lessons for the future.
