Immunonutrition in Gastric Cancer

2021
It is well established that malnutrition negatively affects prognosis in oncologic patients. This condition is particularly frequent in patients with upper gastrointestinal tract tumors. According to recent literature, malnutrition correlates to 80% of all oncologic patients, 65% of whom are at an advanced stage of disease, requiring a multimodal treatment approach. Therefore, during the last 15 years, increasing attention has been paid to nutrition management in gastric cancer patients. Nutritional support has been considered a viable tool to promote tolerance and improve the effectiveness of surgical as well as oncologic treatments.
