The publication and dissemination of investigative findings are the final step in the scientific process and remain as critical as ever for the evaluation, broader discussion, and replication of scientific discoveries. Despite the explosion in new vehicles for publishing data, with greater speed, visibility, and options for scholarly journals, scientific findings nevertheless require careful organization into a formalized structure that permits facile and objective evaluation by peer reviewers. Significant time and preparation are required, and the selection of an appropriate journal is a key feature of this process. Herein, main points for the effective preparation and submission of scientific data to target journals is presented from the perspective of the Editorial Board of Arthritis & Rheumatology.
