Agri-food and Agribusiness Systems

Agriculture in many developing countries have witnessed tremendous transformation in recent years owing to the significant strides governments and other key stakeholders have made at strengthening agri-food systems and agribusiness linkages to make the sector an integral part of the market economy. This is to ensure that the sector achieves accelerated productivity growth, improved food security, increases in employment and incomes so that African agriculture is not left behind by global trends and developments. This chapter explores agri-food and agribusiness systems and their linkages and further examines the differences between agriculture, agri-food, and agribusiness as well as the contribution of agribusiness to economic development.
