Application of STATCOM in 10 kV Distribution Lines

To solve the problems of low voltage and great loss in long 10 kV distribution lines,arming to minimize the power loss caused by the transferred reactive power,the compensation method by connecting a static synchronous compensator in the feeders is studied in this paper.The method of calculating optimal placement and optimal reactive power compensation amount has been derived.The correctness of this method is verified by applying it to uniform and continues distribution loads case.The method is helpful to reduce the loss and the voltage drop caused by the transferred reactive power of feeders,and it is easy to be realized.
