Photoemission study of the electronic structure of BaPb1-xBixO3

1994
Abstract Synchrotron-excited photoemission is used to explore the evolution in the electronic structure of the BaPb 1−x Bi x O 3 system as a function of x, using cleaved single crystal and scraped ceramic samples. At the metal-to-non-metal transition point, a sharp change in surface reactivity is revealed, with metallic samples being more unstable to atmospheric degradation than semiconducting samples. ARPES data shows enhancements in spectral intensity at the Fermi energy away from the Γ-point; these are compared with band-structure calculations.
