A STUDY OF 26 CASES OF HERNIOGRAPHY

1994
Herniography was performed in 26 cases as a preoperative examination for adult groin hernia at the institution from May 1992 to May 1993. In this study this method was reevaluated by comparing with subsequent operative findings. As a result, this method is very useful as an objective evaluation of groin hernias which have been diagnosed only with physical findings in the past. Herniography can offer not only the accurate diagnosis of types of hernias, but also the information of the counterlateral groin and probable combined or reccurrent hernias. The rate of complications is low enough, and the procedure is relatively easy with low cost. Thus, this method is supposed to be very practical for the clinical evaluation of groin hernias. We also report some suggestions, techniques and contraindications of this examination, and introduce our way of confirming the direction of hernia sac using fingers with a review of the literature.
