State of the art, capabilities, and prospects of radioisotope diagnostics

The state of the art and further development of nuclear medicine are determined by several interrelated factors, the principal ones being: the existence of a network of diagnostic laboratories and the equipment they have; provision of trained personnel and the level of production of radiopharmaceutical diagnostic preparations. The most effective and promising radiopharmaceutical diagnosttic preparations in clinical diagnostics and scientific research are those based on /SUP 99m/ Tc, short-lived cyclotron radionuclides (primarily T1 201, I 123, Ga 67, and In 111), and ultra-short-lived positron-emitting c11, N 13, O 15, and F 18. The method of positron-emission tomography based on ultra-short-lived radionuclides is discussed. The main problems confronting the radioisotope diagnostic service are examined.
