Metastatic alveolar soft part sarcoma to the posterior mandible as initial presentation: A first report of an extremely uncommon scenario

Abstract Alveolar soft part sarcoma (ASPS) is a rare type of soft tissue malignancy, representing less than 1% of the sarcomas. It usually occurs in the deep soft tissue of the lower extremities in adults with a propensity to occur in the head and neck tissues in children. It is characterized by a peculiar pattern of metastasis which can occur prior to the detection of the primary lesion. Metastases to the head and neck bone are extremely rare. Herein, we present a 21-year-old female who presented with metastatic ASPS to the posterior mandible before detection of the primary lesion in her thigh. We review ASPS in the context of the current literature.
