Comparison of consolidation effectiveness of acrylic non-aqueous dispersion and other anti-weathering conslidants for earthen architecture and monuments [Original title and text in Chinese]

2003
Acrylic non-aqueous dispersion and several other kinds of material was tested as anti-weathering consolidants for earthen constructed excavation sites and monuments. Before and after the treatment, the properties of clay samples were tested on the changes of weight, color, porosity and the change of compress strength, the change during water decomposing test, and freezing-thawing cycle test, salt efflorescence test. It revealed that clay samples treated with acrylic non-aqueous dispersion at low concentration gain good stability against water decomposition test, freezing-thawing cycle test, salt crystal test, while the appearance and permeability nearly unchanged. Traditional consolidants such as tetraethoxysilicate, acrylic resin, polyurethane and polyester have also been tested, and their advantages and disadvantages were compared. Acrylic non-aqueous dispersion was proved to be excellent anti-weathering consolidants for earthen remain sites. -- MCI
