The understanding that the prehispanic Maya and Nahuatl man had of themselves and their place in the cosmos is shown mainly in the cosmogonic myths that were re-written at the beginning of the colonial times in Indian languages and Latin characters by the Indians themselves, in an except ional thrive to keep their beliefs and traditions, in spite of the violent imposition of another culture.1
