New 2,5-diaryl tetrahydrofuran and analog thereof as paf antagonist

NEW MATERIAL: The compound of formula I [R and R 1 are each H, haloalkyl, halo, CONR 2 R 3 (R 2 and R 3 are each H, alkyl, aryl or the like), alkenyl, COR 2 , OR 2 , R 2 , or the like; Ar and Ar 1 are each phenyl, formula II (R 4 to R 8 are each R 2 , OCOCF 3 , halo, COR 2 , NO 2 , CN or the like), heteroaryl having 1 to 3 of herero atoms (N, S or O) or the like]. EXAMPLE: Trans-2,3-dimethoxy-5-(tetrahydro-5-(3-methoxy-4-propoxy)-5-(2- hydroxyethylsulfonyl)-2-phenyl)pyridine. USE: PAF(platelet activating factor) antagonists. PROCESS: For example, the compound of formula I is obtained by treatment of the compound of formula III by a reductant or by oxydation of the compound of formula IV (A and B are each hydroxy, alkoxy or the like).
