Gaussian wavepacket dynamics in an anharmonic system

Abstract An exact quantum solution is obtained for the problem of Gaussian wavepacket motion in an anharmonic potential. Wavepacket evolution is described by means of an autocorrelation function. The solution is expressed via the theta function with time-dependent argument and parameter. A simple physical analogy is proposed for the wavepacket motion. The problem of calculating the width of the wavepacket “revival zones” is considered.
