Portable high-frequency ultrasound imaging system design and hardware considerations

2014
Ultrasound techniques have wide use in various applications in numerous fields. The frequency range from 10 KHz to 1 MHz is widely used for SONAR (sound navigation and ranging), ultrasonic welding, therapeutic ultrasound, and humidifiers. A frequency range of 1–50 MHz is common in diagnostic sonography and nondestructive testing to find flaws in materials. Micron-sized silicon surface detection utilizes a frequency range of 50–200 MHz [1], and SAW (surface acoustic wave) devices use frequencies ranging from 1 to 10 GHz.
