Development of high-power electric double-layer capacitors

1995
Using newly developed Activated Carbon/Carbon composite (AC/C composite) as polarizable electrode, NEC has developed high-power Electric Double-Layer Capacitors (EDLCs). Ionic mobility of the electrolyte in the porous electrode has been improved by optimizing the thickness and the pore size distribution. High-power EDLCs (5.5 V.47 F, 15 V.15 F) with high rate discharge of 20A current have been developed. A high-power EDLC (15 V.470 F) with 500A discharging current has been also fabricated.
