Potencialidades de aceites esenciales de especies de tres familias botánicas para el manejo de Bemisia tabaci Biotipo B

2019
The objective of this research was to determine the potential of essential oils of species of the families Piperaceas, Lamiaceas and Apiaceas to be developed as new pesticides for management of Bemisia tabaci Biotype B. Seven essential oisl were evaluated for their lethal toxicity by contact on B. tabaci adults and their ovicidal effect by a multiple comparison of proportions by the Wald method. In addition, the effect of these oils on the behavior of insects was determined through a simple ANOVA. The essential oils of Piper hispidum Sw, Ocimum gratissimum L., Ocimum basilimum L., Thymus vulgaris L ., and Pimpinella anisum L. had a lethal toxic effect on adults of B. tabaci , while the oils of P. anisum, T. vulgaris, and O. gratissimum showed repellent action . Based on their repellent effect and high toxicity on adults, the essential oils of O. gratissimum and T. vulgaris could be candidates to be developed as pesticides intended for management of B. tabaci Biotype B.
