Methods and compositions for detecting and analyzing polynucleotides using light harvesting multichromophore

The method for assaying a sample for target polynucleotide, to provide compositions and products. Samples containing the target polynucleotide is suspected, the polycationic multichromophore, and is contacted with a complementary sensor polynucleotide against the target polynucleotide. Sensor polynucleotide to receive energy from the excited multichromophore, including signaling chromophore to increase the light emission in the presence of said target polynucleotide. The method can be used in multiplex format. Kits comprising reagents for practicing such methods are also provided.
