CURRENT CONDOM MERCHANDISING STRATEGIES AND THEIR IMPLICATIONS FOR MALE AND FEMALE SHOPPERS

2003
This study examines the conventional practices in mass-retail environments regarding condom merchandising and shelf placement. From a review of the literature, examination of current retail practice, and a consumer survey, it is determined that contemporary condom retailing is ideally suited for female purchasers, but is significantly inappropriate for male shoppers. Suggestions for retailers and public health implications are discussed.
