SOME FUNGI IMPERFECTI OF THE PUNJAB AND KASHMIR

1964
As mentioned in a previous paper (Wehmeyer, 1963), the revision of the phanerogamic collections from northwestern India, deposited in the Herbarium of the University of Michigan, by Dr. R. R. Stewart, gave the writer an opportunity to search these collections for fungi on the dead leaf and stem material. The material so obtained was, of necessity, often scanty and a number of species of fungi were often found on the same stems. The Fungi Imperfecti found in this way are reported in this paper. The species of so many of the larger form genera of the Fungi Imperfecti have been delimited on the basis of host occurrence that it is often difficult to decide upon a binomial on a morphologic basis alone. This lends to a multiplication of species, particularly in a new area where the fungi of many of the host plants have not been studied. However, a description is better than a name, and both are given here for the record. In order to avoid repetition of local names and dates, the collections, with this data are listed below in consecutive order. Under each species, therefore, only the number, host and elevation are given, for each collection. The collectors of this phanerogamic material, and their initials (given in parentheses) which are used to designate their collections are as follows: Walter Koelz (no initials used), Dr. R. R. Stewart (RRS), F. G. Dickason (FGD), Thakur Rup Chand (RC) and Bhagwan Singh (BS). The numbers of the Dickason collections were arbitrarily assigned by the writer.
